the golden rule.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. In the context of the Dead House, that means we're all here to have fun, and if you're ruining that fun, there will be consequences. Don't infomod, don't godmod, talk to each other, and just enjoy the ride. If we receive complaints, we'll look into it, but really, who wants to spend their time investigating player behavior. Just be nice, guys.
characters and applications.
• Reservations are always open and last a week from the date of submission.
• Applications are also always open. There is a current character limit of 2 per player.
• You are allowed to submit 1 application per calendar month.
• There is a game-wide character cap of 80 characters and a cast cap of 10 characters.
• Appable characters include all OU, Canon AU, CRAU, malleable protagonists (Shepherd, DA protags, Persona protags, etc), Canon OC (Dungeons & Dragons + Other Table-top RP), and Original Characters. Note: Only one version of a character will be accepted. For example, if someone were to apply for Rogue from X-Men Evolution, then no one could apply for her from the original universe, movies, or other animated series.
• CRAU transfer is welcome, but any direct knowledge of other characters in-game the character may possess will need to be hand-waved as forgotten unless the current player in-game is okay with the knowledge. Please communicate!
• Malleable Protagonists from games like Mass Effect or Dragon Age are appable provided their personality is consistent and matches with choices in game and are applied as though no romance option was chosen. Similarly, any characters who are romance options in those games must also be applied as though their romance option was not chosen.
• Dead characters may be brought in from the moment of their death or, in the case of ghosts, alive once again. Vampires or other undead will be perceived as their canon state by all player characters, but NPCs will treat them as normal humans. Weird, right?
• Non-human characters may be brought in with their canon appearances so long as they are roughly the size of a normal human (they need to be able to physically fit into the halls). We invite characters to headcanon a normal human appearance for them as well, as any staff and other NPCs at the sanatorium will be treating them as though there is nothing at all abnormal about their appearance.
• Non-appable characters include real people, figures from mythology, Fandom OCs, Fandom AUs, and characters that lack sufficient source material to complete a proper application. As below if you're uncertain, but a good rule of thumb is 60/40. If a character requires more than 60% headcanon to be fleshed out into a full character, it lacks the required amount of source material. Real people and/or mythological figures are any that exist in our current iteration of Earth. An exception to this rule is a fictionalized version of them, such as Persephone from the Percy Jackson books or Abraham Lincoln from Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter.
• Character powers and abilities are welcome, provided they aren't game-breaky. Their abilities will cause no harm whatsoever to any NPCs, staff members, or environments in the hospital itself. Telepathy and mind control cannot be used on NPCs who work inside the hospital, either. NOTE: exceptions to these rules occur occasionally, usually when the hospital or the Yard changes and that will always be noted in the OOC post about the upcoming event.
• **EDITED** characters under the age of 16 will be accepted on a Case by Case Basis, as some of the events are going to be exceptionally traumatic, and the decision will be based on the response to the application's field "Please explain why you feel this character is a good fit for this setting".
• Character arrive with no clothing or weapons from home, and awaken wearing clean white socks and rust-colored hospital scrubs. There will be opportunities for them to acquire new belongings or even potentially things from home during events.
• Canon updates are handled thusly: Submit the canon update form here. Occasionally characters are abducted from their rooms or the grounds and taken across the lake (see more about the sanatorium and the grounds on the settings page) to the Asylum. No contact can be made to them while they are away. 1 week after the update is approved, characters will awaken in much the same way they did when they first arrived, but with any physical, emotional, and/or spiritual changes they experienced back home.

activity check, hiatuses & drops.
• the Activity Check form is always available on the Activity Check page and you're welcome to submit any applicable forms throughout the month. Information on how to fill out the Activity Check spreadsheet can be found on that page.
• A reminder post, as well as a list of characters still requiring AC, will be posted a week before AC is verified in the OOC community.
• AC is verified on the 1st of every month and any characters not meeting requirements will have three days to submit their threads. If AC is failed, the character will receive a strike and will need to post double AC the following month.
• Hiatuses will need to be at least two weeks of the given calendar month to be exempt from activity check and can be submitted here.
• Drops are also submitted on the above page. You'll have 7 days to change your mind after dropping without a penalty. After a week, though, you'll have to wait an additional week before reapplying and will not be eligible to reserve the character that was dropped.

acceptable content.
• **EDITED for clarification** R-rated content only. Yes, we are a horror game and there will be elements of torture, but scenes of gratuitous violence, sexual assault, extensive torture of minors, genital mutilation, or other forms of extreme brutality should be behind a cut and prefaced with a content warning.
Remember, the primary premise of the game is existential crises related to the perception of reality with aspects of popular and cult horror tropes as events affecting the setting at times. We don't want to restrict anyone's creativity or expression, but we only ask you respect your fellow players so that we can all have a fun and comfortable time!

questions.
I have unavoidably missed something, or you have a specific question pertaining to your character that needs answering. Either way, submit it in a comment below and you should hear back from the mod within 24 hours!
• In regards to the types of events to be expected in-game.
• A very good question about how the drugs affect people!
• RE: mixing and matching AC requirements

A question from plurk
(In reference to our first TDM here)
Answer: the specific prompts in the TDM are simply there to give people an idea of the strange things that can happen occasionally in the setting. I specifically linked to the setting, the housing arrangements, and premise pages in the first section to give people ideas for prompts in the setting at large.
The events themselves, the carnival for example, won't be occurring on any specific schedule.
A Question from plurk
Answer: Their mental faculties would be temporarily impaired like someone coming out of heavy tranquilizers. If that would affect their abilities, then have at it! As far as any employees at the hospital are concerned, there are no abilities to be affected. They don't notice them at all.
